Exceptionally pleasant stay in the Charming Room
Our three-night stay in the Charming Room seems like some kind of beautiful dream now that a couple of weeks have gone by. Rarely does one get to experience this kind of hospitality, particularly in such a well-touristed and drop-dead gorgeous town, which served as a respite for us between stays in Florence and then Rome. Gianni's wife Carla welcomed us when we arrived mid-morning from the train station. She explained everything to us in great detail and offered recommendations for dining out. Although she had explained to us, we forgot how to operate the overhead fan—something most will want to use in the warmer months given that there is no A/C—but eventually recalled that there was a handheld remote to control the fan. Because we ate all of our meals out, we only used the kitchen to make coffee (long espressos) with the automatic espresso maker and to keep beverages in the ample small refrigerator. The bath was simple but sizeable enough for an accommodation of this size (think NYC apartments of a certain generation--the kitchen and bath are about the same size). The bath has an anteroom with built-in shelving, which is a nice touch given that the sink itself does not have a lot of room to place things. A sizeable number of three panel light switches, usually with only one operable switch, are scattered haphazardly throughout—I don't believe we ever were able to remember which switch turned on which light. In fact, it took me forever to find the switch for the overhead lamp above the table—it turned out to be nestled in a little nook in the wall by the table just above floor level. We found this all amusing. The bed was adequate, though the pillows were a bit hard and flat. They (and the bed) were fine by me, but my wife thought they could be improved. I only mention this because my wife mentioned it once after the first night, not because it is any real shortcoming in the room. The window looking out is right next to the gelateria, so during the day, and in addition to waves of tourists passing in front of the window, you'll see people, well, eating their gelato. After about 6 pm, though, it gets quiet in terms of human traffic. The entrance to the building is not the entrance to the room. It opens up into a small foyer with two doors, one for the room the left, and another one right in front as you enter. That other door is used by employees of the Il Gambero Rosso, the restaurant with multi-colored umbrellas a few doors down, which uses the space for storage. During the day, you may well either run into one of the employees or hear them. The wifi was not high-speed of course, but it was adequate and consistent with the speeds one usually gets in good hotels (i.e., ~8Mbps download). I really cannot say enough about the room or the graciousness (and communicativeness) of our hosts, Gianni and Carla. I don't see how anyone would not treasure staying here. Gem by the sea
Our room by the sea in Vernazza was maybe our favorite of all the places we have stayed anywhere. The Capellinis are so welcoming. They have decorated the space lovingly. The room is directly on the promenade to the sea break, but we left the window open, and at night all we heard were the waves crashing, and the church bell. Great apartment right in the beach.

Very nice stay in Vernazza
My wife and I enjoyed our night in the cozy studio. Would recommend if you don't mind carrying your gear up several flights of stairs. Coordinating with the family owners was a joy. Charming Room, Charming Hosts
We stayed three nights in the Charming Room in September and were glad we did. It’s right in the heart of Vernazza, just steps from the beach, pizza and gelato. The room was modestly furnished, but lacking nothing we needed and perfectly clean. It’s modestly priced as well. Maria’s daughter Carla met us at the train station and led us on the short walk through town to the Charming Room. We did find it to be charming and well located. We later met Maria and Giacomo, who couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. This location can get a bit lively during the day as the crowds in Vernazza swell, but it is lovely when it quiets down around sunset. If you like a little 'adventure', and I mean in a good way. Vernazza is the cutest town of the five cities in Cinque Terra. There are NO hotels, let alone resorts. Maria and Giancomo rent out two rooms. We stayed in the larger, The Charming Room. It is small, impeccably clean, a little Spartan, and wonderful! Reading the few less than five star reviews I noticed the '3 star' placing the room on 'the main alleyway toward Monterossa'. NO.....the room faces the Mediterranean ! Literally steps from the water ! The other negative comments were 'the noise'. OK......if that was their experience, it wasn't ours. You are located on 'the main drag'........one of it's charms.........but the town shuts down early and the only people outside in the morning were older townspeople going for a swim. We traveled from Vernazza, after staying three nights. Stayed at the usual 4 and 5 star hotels of Lake Como, the Swiss Alps, and Tuscany. Maria's room was our favorite, and we look forward to returning. But, don't go if you're not willing to except a more casual, authentic experience. Lovely Stop to Stay in Cinque Terra
This Cozy studio apartment is a central location to stay while visiting Vernazza. This apartment is right off the central square. Restaurants are right below and the harbor is just a few steps away. You are also right on the path that travels between Vernazza and the other Cinque Terra towns. You will be comfortable in this apartment as a couple. There is a small kitchen and a queen size bed. There is a twin day bed so one child would be comfortable here as well. Maria's daughter met me at the train. Maria and her husband live in the building if you need anything. Full Vernazza experience vs. just visiting it.
We stayed 3 nights in the Charming Room in Vernazza and enjoyed every minute of it. We normally stay at top hotels, but loved how others commented on this room and location. The mornings and evenings are peaceful and relaxing. Good restaurants and amazing views from your window and steps from your door. Great location to explore all of Cinque Terre. Location, Location, Location
I traveled by train from Rome to Vernazza and stayed in the Charming Room for two nights. I was a solo traveler interested in hiking and seeing the beauty of the Cinque Terre. Based on recommendations from friends and online reviews I had chosen Vernazza for my Cinque Terre adventure. I couldn't have found a better location for accommodations and absolutely enjoyed the Charming Room. It is located right on the harbor and has easy access to the town square where I ate dinner both nights, the train station, hiking and swimming. The room itself has everything you need and there are many thoughtful touches for guests with maps, books, fully equipped kitchen and unique art. The gracious hosts met me at the train station and helped me buy an electrical Adapter before escorting me to my room and showing me everything I needed to know. Room Security was very good And I felt safe even though I was traveling solo. I hiked all day and then enjoyed a refreshing swim in the harbor.
